Google Search Console Introduces Platform Properties

Google Search Console has been one of the most useful, free sources of organic search data for businesses.

But there's always been a fairly significant limitation - it was primarily built around your website.

Your website, social media content and YouTube videos could be appearing in Google search when users enter their prompts. However, as a business you couldn't easily see how that social and video content was performing within Google's ecosystem.

That has now changed.

At the late end of July 2026, Google introduced Platform Properties to Google Search Console, allowing businesses and creators to connect their Instagram, TikTok, X (Twitter) and YouTube accounts to see how that is being discovered through Google Search.

For businesses investing heavily in content across multiple channels, it's fair to say this is more than another analytics feature to just track clicks. It's going to be a major puzzle pieve in understanding better how your brand is being discovered online.

Let's dive into it.

What are Platform Properties on Google Search Console?

Google Search Console Platform Properties

Platform properties are a new type of property within Google Search Console. Previously, when you thought about a Search Console property, you were probably thinking about a website or part of a website.

You would usually connect a domain or URL prefix property and analyse how your website appeared in search results. Platform Properties expands that idea by allowing businesses to measure how certain social and content platforms contribute to search.

Google Search Console now allows adding these platforms as properties too. Currently, the supported platforms are:

  • Instagram

  • TikTok

  • X (Twitter)

  • YouTube

Once an account is connected and verified, Search Console can start reporting on how its content performs when it appears within Google Search. It would also indicate where applicable if it shows within Google Discover and Google News as well.

Most importantly, this isn't intended to replace Instagram Insights, TikTok Analytics or YouTube Studio. These platforms tell you what happens within their own ecosystems.

Search Console provides a different perspective telling you:

What happens when Google is the place where someone discovers your content or profile?

That distinction is important as it ensures you truly have deeper insights into how people are discovering you across the internet. A post might not go viral on the platform where it was published, but it could still attract valuable visibility because people are finding it through Google.

Why Is This Important for Businesses?

Modern day customers don't necessarily discover a business through its website alone; especially if you're a products based business. They might discover a brand through a TikTok video or Instagram, see the products in one of these places as well, get served a YouTube video about the founder and so on.

This naturally creates a fragmented measurement problem. Your website has Google search data, Instagram has Instagram data, TikTok has TikTok data and so on.

But none of these native platforms necessarily tell you how much of your content's visibility is coming from Google Search. And Platform properties is closing that gap.

For businesses, that means potentially gaining visibility into a part of the customer journey that was previously hard to measure.
